In the heart of Seattle, there’s a community organization making waves with its mission to support teens on their path to recovery. Bridges Seattle Alternative Peer Group isn’t just another nonprofit; it’s a beacon of hope for teens and young adults navigating the challenges of addiction. Last fall, we had the opportunity to join forces with Bridges APG for their annual golf tournament, Birdies for Bridges, at the iconic Golf Club at Newcastle.

Referred by our friend and colleague Ellen Miyasaki-Peterson, owner of Ellen Marie Productions, we utilized our extensive AV expertise supporting fundraisers and experience working events at The Golf Club at Newcastle venue to make this golf tournament a success.

As a bonus, we were excited about the presence of Macklemore himself—local rap sensation Ben Haggerty—and an avid supporter of Bridges APG. His involvement underscores the significance of Bridges’ mission and the impact it has on the Seattle community.

A Closer Look at Bridges Seattle APG

Bridges Seattle APG stands out as a place of hope for teens grappling with addiction. Founded on the principle of peer-to-peer support, Bridges offers a lifeline to young individuals navigating recovery. We interviewed Ryan Orrison, the Executive Director of Bridges, to further understand Bridges’ mission, impact, and vision for the future.

“At Bridges, we believe in the power of community and connection,” Ryan emphasized. “We provide a safe space for teens to share their experiences, receive support, and embark on a journey of healing and growth.”

With a diverse range of programs and resources, Bridges offers comprehensive support tailored to the unique needs of each participant. From group therapy sessions to recreational activities, the organization fosters a holistic approach to recovery.

But Bridges’ impact extends far beyond its four walls.

“Our goal is to empower teens to reclaim their lives and become leaders in their recovery journey,” Ryan explained. “Through mentorship, education, and advocacy, we equip our participants with the tools they need to thrive in sobriety.” Indeed, the statistics speak volumes—Bridges has supported over 100 families since its inception, with an impressive success rate in maintaining long-term sobriety among its participants.

However, the journey hasn’t been without its challenges. “One of our biggest obstacles is transportation,” Ryan revealed. “Many teens struggle to access our services due to lack of transportation options.” To address this issue, Bridges launched initiatives to provide transportation assistance, ensuring that no teen is left behind.

Despite the challenges, Bridges remains steadfast in its commitment to serving the community. “Every success story is a testament to the resilience and strength of our participants,” Ryan remarked. “And with the support of our dedicated staff, volunteers, and partners, we continue to make a positive impact in the lives of those we serve.”

The event was not only a fundraiser but also a testament to the dedication and passion of everyone involved in supporting Bridges’ mission. The dedication of the entire team, coupled with unwavering community support, enabled Bridges to raise significant funds. Ellen emphasized the importance of the fundraiser, stating, “Birdies for Bridges was crucial for keeping the doors open and sustaining what they needed to grow and improve upon the program.”
